On the Union Depot building....

-In 1903 Daniel Burnham was awarded contract for structure of Depot Station.

-In 1906 The El Paso Depot was erected making it Americas first International rail station.

-1910-1920 Union depot became a safe haven for refugees and exiled political leaders during the Mexican Revolution.  Was also known that Pancho Villa used Union Depot’s bell tower as a lookout during attacks on Ciudad Juarez.

-1940’s lead by a woman's group the station was remodeled to a more “regionally appropriate” style.

-1958 the depot served as a greeting place to welcome Elvis Presley.

-1974 the loss of passengers the depot was shuttered.

-1975 the depot was put up for sale.

-1975 the depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

-1982 the depot was restored to it’s original integrity.

“As Mexico central trains crossed the Rio Grande from Ciudad Juarez Mexico, by uniting all of the rail lies in one central structure, Downtown witnessed the construction of numerous hotels, banks, and other businesses positioned to benefit from proximity to the transportation hub.”
